SpaceTech Capital I LP, located in New York, is a venture fund focusing on growth-stage investments within the space economy. We target companies that are pioneering applications, infrastructure, and services to transform access to space, fueling both commercial and government adoption. Our goal is to back founders developing the essential technologies and services that will unlock the next trillion-dollar economic opportunities.
Role Summary
We are looking for a seasoned Investment Associate to become part of SpaceTech Capital's investment team. In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing and evaluating promising portfolio companies and providing strategic support to them. This position offers a unique chance to work alongside cutting-edge technologies at the forefront of the space economy, blending commercial innovation with government contracting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in-depth technical, financial, and market due diligence on prospective investments within frontier and space technology sectors.
- Develop financial models, market sizing analyses, and valuation assessments.
- Evaluate companies' competitive positions, technological uniqueness, and regulatory environments.
- Draft detailed investment memorandums and submit recommendations for committee review.
- Establish and maintain relationships with entrepreneurs, experts, and partners in the space and frontier tech industries.
- Proactively identify investment opportunities through networking, conferences, and direct contacts, aligning them with the fund's thesis and criteria.
- Support portfolio companies by assisting with business growth strategies, strategic planning, and operational metric tracking.
- Facilitate networking introductions to help portfolio companies expand.
- Monitor portfolio company performance against set milestones.
- Assist in general fund operations including LP communications, fundraising efforts, and investment thesis refinement.
- Help with fund governance and maintain investor relations.
Required Qualifications
- 7 to 10 years of professional experience in venture capital, private equity, or growth equity investing.
- Proven expertise in frontier technology areas such as deep tech, space technology, advanced manufacturing, energy, propulsion, and communications.
- Strong skills in financial modeling and analysis, particularly with complex, capital-intensive technology firms.
- Experience collaborating with technical founders and comprehension of deep technical concepts.
- Preferred experience includes navigating regulated industries and government contracting.
- Bachelor's degree (Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Business, or related) required; advanced degrees are advantageous.
- Keen attention to detail with the ability to integrate technical, commercial, and regulatory information.
- Excellent communication and presentation capabilities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Location requirement: Residing in or willingness to relocate to New York City.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous venture capital or private equity experience in space technology, aerospace, defense, or related fields.
- Knowledge of government contracts (SBIR/STTR, OTA, cost-plus) and regulatory frameworks such as ITAR, CMMC, and DFARS.
- Technical or advanced degree background in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or physics.
- A proven record of investing in or supporting ambitious moonshot or deep tech companies.
- Familiarity with the current market landscape of the space economy.
