About the Role
The Department of Education in Western Australia invites applications to form a pool of Home Economics Assistants for both permanent and fixed-term opportunities, including full-time and part-time positions potentially beginning during the 2026 and 2027 school years. These positions will be based at Eaton Community College, whose motto "Encouraging, Caring, and Challenging" reflects its dedication to fostering a supportive and challenging environment for both students and staff.
The Home Economics Assistant will support educators by helping to deliver planned educational programs and supervising students. This role involves preparing and maintaining a safe and efficient learning environment, ensuring all equipment, materials, and resources are ready for classes, presentations, and activities, and properly stored after use. Courses include Caring for Children, Children Family & Community, and Barista Skills, with experience in these areas considered highly advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Support teachers in delivering curriculum-based educational programs.
- Assist with student supervision and wellbeing during classes.
- Prepare and maintain classroom equipment, materials, and resources, ensuring their availability and safe storage.
- Promote and support hygienic and safe food preparation practices.
- Maintain inventory records, monitor stock levels, and process requisitions for supplies.
- Carry out cleaning and maintenance tasks as required to preserve a productive learning environment.

Eligibility Criteria and Conditions
- Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, or possess a valid visa with work rights for the duration of employment.
- A Working With Children Check is required before commencing the role.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and must obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education Screening Unit prior to starting.
