Healthcare Support Worker

Role Overview

Maple Ward provides specialised mental health services for older adults aged 65 and over living with conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression. The ward is split into Maple 1, with 8 beds, and Maple 2, containing 14 beds. Healthcare Assistants may be expected to work across both wards dependent on service requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with service users to assess their needs and provide appropriate care.
• Participate actively in assessing or reassessing the physical health needs of service users.
• Perform physical observations and ensure they are accurately recorded according to individual care plans.
• Monitor, evaluate, and communicate service user progress and any changes in needs to senior staff.
• Maintain precise documentation and provide comprehensive handovers verbally and in writing.
• Promote effective communication by identifying and overcoming barriers within the team and with other contacts.
• Ensure all communications comply with relevant laws, policies, and procedures.

The role focuses on upholding dignity, fostering independence and personal choice, and respecting the beliefs and preferences of service users at all times. Under the guidance of registered practitioners, the post holder will develop enhanced skills as outlined in the competency framework and support practical daily living tasks, community engagement, and activities promoting holistic wellbeing.
