Role overview

This position is for an Electrical Engineer who will help plan, shape, and deliver electricity distribution network expansion initiatives. The role focuses on creating expansion plans, assessing project designs, assisting with procurement and commissioning tasks, and making sure all work meets technical, regulatory, and operational expectations.

Key responsibilities

Build network expansion plans for electricity distribution systems based on projected demand.
Contribute to the Power Network Development Plan by defining project scopes, assessing alternatives, and preparing technical rationale.
Work with Project Engineering teams and external consultants to create detailed scopes of work and functional specifications.
Examine preliminary and detailed design submissions from consultants and developers to confirm alignment with company standards and Asset Management needs.
Draft RFQs, BOQs, technical specifications, and work scopes for power network assignments.
Take the lead on technical evaluation of bids and assist with procurement-related activities.
Spot project risks and delivery constraints, then prepare mitigation actions to support successful execution.
Give technical input to project teams during construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
Review project designs against industry standards, regulatory obligations, and approved specifications.
Join site visits, technical discussions, and quality assurance checks to track progress and address design issues.
Coordinate with Asset Management, Capital Projects, and Operations & Maintenance teams to ensure new assets are integrated smoothly into the network.
Make sure required permits, approvals, environmental clearances, and operational permissions are in place before commissioning.
Track milestones, stage gates, and CAPEX targets to help keep projects on schedule.
Assist with asset handover by confirming that all documents, technical items, and compliance conditions are complete.
Follow up on asset performance during the Defects Liability Period and work with stakeholders on corrective actions.
Prepare technical documentation, performance updates, and project reports for internal and external audiences.

Qualifications and experience

Candidates should hold a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and bring 3 to 5 years of experience in power distribution, network planning, utility engineering, or a similar discipline. A solid grasp of electricity distribution networks, engineering design fundamentals, and project lifecycle management is required, along with experience in preparing technical specifications, reviewing designs, and managing consultants or contractors.

Preferred qualifications

A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and PMP certification are preferred. Experience gained in utility, transmission, or distribution organizations will be an added advantage.
