About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Ecologist to join our Newcastle-based team within Kleinfelder Australia. This role involves participating in various ecological projects across multiple habitats in New South Wales and potentially beyond. As part of a multidisciplinary group of scientists and engineers, you will be mentored by BAM accredited ecologists to enhance your professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute flora and fauna surveys aligned with regulatory standards, ensuring meticulous data collection and sample gathering in the field.
- Conduct fieldwork diligently while adhering to health and safety policies, including both internal and client-specific procedures.
- Prepare ecological reports and assessments proficiently, supporting senior ecologists with complex deliverables such as Biodiversity Stewardship Site Assessment Reports (BSSARs) and Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDARs).
- Assist project managers in monitoring project timelines and budgets.
- Engage in training programs and skill development initiatives with senior team members.
Candidate Profile
- A degree in environmental science, ecology, natural resource management, or a related field is required; higher qualifications or ongoing relevant studies will be an advantage.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in environmental consulting, with demonstrated capability across diverse ecological projects.
- Strong proficiency in identifying flora and fauna, ideally within New South Wales.
- Practical experience with BAM vegetation integrity plots, including use of identification keys and familiarity with local plant species.
- Experience in targeted surveys for threatened species, especially fauna survey expertise, is highly valued.
- Knowledge and application of Australian national and state environmental regulations and guidelines, including the NSW Biodiversity Offset Scheme (BOS) and Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM 2020).
- Commitment to pursuing BAM accreditation with mentoring support.
- Recognition through relevant certifications or active involvement in professional ecological associations.
