Department Overview

The People Team at Mishcon de Reya LLP serves a vital role in attracting, developing, and retaining talented personnel, providing necessary support tools to help individuals and the firm achieve their full potential. This diverse team, comprising about 40 members, covers generalist People Advisory roles and specialist areas such as Talent, Reward, Engagement, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, Wellbeing, and the Academy which delivers learning and technology support.

Early Careers Team Role

The Early Careers function operates across both the Talent Team, focused on attraction and recruitment, and the People Advisory Team, dedicated to the development and ongoing support of trainees and apprentices. It manages recruitment and ongoing support for roughly 20 apprentices, 60 graduate trainees, along with periodic cohorts of work experience students and interns.

The Early Careers Assistant will support both Early Careers Advisors in recruitment and development activities, reporting to both. This position offers an excellent chance to gain experience and grow a career in Early Careers within the broader People Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and participate in candidate attraction events such as law fairs, open days, outreach programmes, work experience, and internships.
  • Efficiently manage the applicant tracking system for all Early Careers roles, including apprenticeships and graduate programmes.
  • Collaborate with Equality, Diversity & Inclusion partners like Sutton Trust and Rare Recruitment to support outreach efforts.
  • Maintain and update job postings on the firm's career site and external platforms such as LinkedIn and training provider sites.
  • Keep all online profiles, including Legal Cheek and Bright Network, current with the latest information.
  • Screen applications for graduate, internship, and apprenticeship positions.
  • Arrange, coordinate, and assist with in-person assessment centres and vacation schemes.
  • Communicate results and offer constructive feedback to candidates.
  • Manage candidate and internal communications via the Early Careers email inbox.
  • Lead work experience initiatives, acting as primary contact and facilitating programme design and delivery including skills workshops.
  • Serve as a reliable first contact for Early Careers cohort queries, escalating when appropriate.
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of Early Careers programmes and stakeholders to provide proactive and quality support.
  • Manage onboarding communications and processes for new trainees and apprentices, ensuring a seamless transition from offer to joining.
  • Assist with right to work checks and document management in collaboration with the Global Capability Centre.
  • Coordinate apprenticeship provider interactions and administrative needs.
  • Partner with the Academy and Early Careers Advisors to organise induction and mentor allocations for trainees and apprentices.
  • Maintain extensive trackers related to joiners, development progress, and seat movements, ensuring accurate and timely updates.
  • Update Early Careers communications, resources, and intranet content for accuracy and accessibility.
  • Plan and execute seat information fairs, managing logistics and communications.
  • Support seat move coordination including communication with supervisors and trainees and system management.
  • Draft and send seat review reminders and other pertinent communications.
  • Assist with qualification processes, including tracking timelines and supporting internal paralegals seeking qualification.
  • Take detailed notes and contribute in internal feedback sessions.
  • Provide general administrative support such as diary management, meeting arrangements, and materials preparation for events.
  • Support broader Talent Acquisition and People Team projects, including data collation and reporting.
  • Propose and implement process improvements, including leveraging AI tools where appropriate.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum one year experience in recruitment or HR, preferably within a dynamic professional services environment.
  • Degree-level qualification, HR apprenticeship, or equivalent relevant background.
  • Familiarity with applicant tracking systems is advantageous.
  • Exceptional organisational capabilities and a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong and professional written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging stakeholders at all organisation levels.
  • Comfortable supporting presentations and interacting with candidates at face-to-face events.
  • Proactive, positive attitude and the ability to prioritize and multitask efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
  • Capable of both independent work and collaborative teamwork.
  • Experience with identifying and implementing efficiency improvements is valued.
  • Experience using AI or CoPilot tools to enhance processes is a plus but not mandatory.
