Director of Programs & Engagement

Role Overview

The Director of Programs & Engagement is a senior leadership position designed to broaden the strategic reach of the Executive Director while acting as the main operational and relational driver of the organization. This role takes ownership of the entire events and programs lifecycle—from initial strategic planning and logistical execution to analyzing outcomes post-event. Additionally, the position plays a key part in nurturing relationships with sponsors, members, and partners, which are crucial to achieving the organization's mission and ensuring its longevity.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the entire events and programs portfolio to ensure successful execution.
• Manage and cultivate sponsor relationships, delivering clear ROI reporting and value demonstration.
• Drive membership retention efforts and foster active community engagement.
• Provide ongoing organizational support and collaborate closely with the Executive Director.

Required Qualifications

• At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit event or program management, partnership development, or a related area.
• Proven ability to plan and implement complex events involving multiple stakeholders.
• Experience managing sponsor or donor relationships with demonstrated growth results.
• Strong project management capabilities with the skill to juggle multiple deadlines in a small-team setting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable presenting to sponsors, board members, and partners.
• Proficiency in CRM software, project management tools, and standard productivity applications.
• High level of professional judgment, discretion, and able to independently take initiative on projects.
• Availability and flexibility to travel for multiple events annually.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within a small nonprofit or team environment where flexible roles are common.
• Knowledge of sponsorship ROI measurement or impact assessment methods.
• Familiarity with membership management systems.
• A background or keen interest in eyecare fields such as ophthalmology or optometry.
