Director of Engineering

About the Role

The Director of Engineering will oversee all engineering and maintenance operations to ensure optimal functioning of the building, grounds, and physical plant, prioritizing safety, security, and asset protection. This leadership role involves managing budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, energy conservation, and maintaining regulatory compliance. Additionally, the Director leads the emergency response team addressing all facility-related incidents.

Responsibilities

• Supervise engineering operations in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
• Manage physical plant systems including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems.
• Ensure all equipment operates efficiently, safely, and effectively.
• Develop and maintain an effective maintenance program for rooms.
• Ensure compliance with departmental policies, standards, and procedures within engineering.
• Control departmental expenses to meet or surpass budget goals.
• Select, order, and purchase equipment, supplies, and furnishings as needed.
• Inspect and assess the physical condition of facilities to determine necessary work.
• Recommend and coordinate additional services such as painting, repairs, renovations, and equipment replacements.
• Supervise daily engineering operations.
• Maintain accurate logs and records.
• Plan, schedule, and evaluate preventative maintenance programs efficiently.
• Address guest complaints and problems effectively, promoting excellent customer service.
• Empower team members to deliver outstanding guest hospitality and foster a positive environment.
• Set priorities for total property maintenance requirements.
• Facilitate ongoing communication regarding business goals, expectations, and recognition of performance.
• Celebrate successes and publicly acknowledge team contributions.
• Build and maintain open, collaborative employee relationships, ensuring fairness and equity.
• Provide regular feedback on service performance and supervise emergency procedure execution.
• Analyze employee satisfaction data to resolve workplace issues, encouraging feedback.
• Ensure compliance with facility regulations and safety protocols.
• Administer disciplinary procedures and documentation in alignment with local standards and support peer review processes.
• Enforce consistent and fair application of property policies.

Candidate Profile

• Education: High school diploma or GED plus 4 years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or related fields with technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing;
• OR a 2-year degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related specialties with 2 years of relevant experience plus technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing.
