Role overview
Crate & Barrel is looking for a Designer who is enthusiastic about helping customers imagine and create beautiful living spaces aligned with current home design trends. This position focuses on building lasting customer relationships, translating ideas into practical design solutions, and supporting sales through both in-store and in-home consultations.
The role covers a broad range of styles, from classic to modern, and involves using digital design tools and technology to present concepts, develop layouts, and guide customers through furnishing decisions for anything from a single statement piece to a complete home.
What you will do
- Increase sales and deliver a memorable customer experience through engaging design support in store, at the customer’s home, and through virtual meetings.
- Prepare polished design concepts using approved tools, including mood boards, 2D and 3D floor plans, product selections, and customer presentation materials.
- Run design consultations in person, by phone, by email, and through virtual channels.
- Complete projects promptly and within assigned timelines.
- Understand the brand’s visual direction and merchandising approach across store, e-commerce, and catalog channels.
- Stay current on product details, care instructions, competitor offerings, and broader industry trends.
- Meet individual sales, KPI, service, and productivity targets while actively assisting customers on the sales floor.
- Identify customer needs through attentive listening and explain loyalty and membership programs such as designer rewards, the Design Trade Program, and credit card offerings.
- Model strong service standards by providing friendly, fast, and efficient support.
- Help train store teams on design services and offerings to build awareness and understanding.
- Develop repeat business and referrals through networking, follow-up, and client relationships.
- Use core design knowledge such as spatial planning, fabric selection, lighting, and interior design styles to support recommendations.
- Communicate clearly and on time while connecting the brand vision with customer preferences and requirements.
- Use technology confidently, including 2D/3D tools, Google tools, video conferencing, and iPad-based floor planning.
- Keep pace with evolving design trends and adapt quickly as business needs change.
What we are looking for
- Working knowledge of essential design principles, including space planning, fabrics, lighting, and interior styles.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain ideas clearly and in a timely manner.
- Comfort using design and collaboration technology such as 2D/3D tools, Google Workspace, video conferencing, and floor planning tools.
- Ability to follow current design trends and apply them in customer recommendations.
- Proven ability to create long-term customer relationships.
- Prior experience in furniture sales, home décor design, retail, or customer service is preferred, with at least 1 year of relevant experience mentioned.
- Experience working directly with clients and suggesting suitable solutions.
- Google platform proficiency and familiarity with virtual communication tools; design software experience is an advantage.
