Job description
Overview
The Data and Graph Platform Engineer plays a crucial role managing the data infrastructure encompassing both relational and graph databases, along with the Kubernetes environments that host these services. This role supports various concurrent projects within Digital Cloud Infrastructure Engineering focusing on cloud infrastructure and data platforms, including the Internal Developer Platform initiative.
Technical Stack
The primary technologies involved in this position include PostgreSQL, FalkorDB, Neo4j, and Kubernetes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and optimize PostgreSQL database deployments to ensure stability and high performance; tasks include handling backups, replication, indexing, and capacity forecasting.
- Develop and maintain graph data models and queries using Cypher for Neo4j and FalkorDB databases.
- Design and curate software catalog style data models that represent entities, ownership, and dependency links, to enable visualization and impact analysis within internal platform tools.
- Provide guidance to engineering teams on the appropriate use of graph versus relational data models based on specific domain needs and query performance considerations.
- Administer and support stateful services running on Kubernetes, managing StatefulSets, persistent storage, storage classes, and database operators.
- Assist in schema design and query performance tuning across both relational and graph database contexts to benefit the broader engineering team.
Required Skills
- Extensive experience in PostgreSQL administration and performance tuning.
- Proficient in graph database modeling and Cypher querying, specifically with Neo4j and FalkorDB.
- Experienced with Kubernetes operations for stateful workloads, including storage management and operators.
- Ability to discern when to utilize graph traversal over relational joins for optimal query performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting comparisons or migrations between FalkorDB and Neo4j.
- Exposure to data pipelines or ETL processes.
- Familiarity with service catalog or Configuration Management Database (CMDB) graph models.
- Basic knowledge of Go programming language and gRPC concepts is an advantage but not mandatory.
