Data Analyst (Entry / Junior)

Role Overview

The Data Analyst at an entry to junior level will provide critical support to ongoing food structure and function research projects by managing and analyzing experimental datasets. This part-time position based in Sydney, NSW, involves a combination of on-site and remote work. The analyst will be responsible for accurate data handling including cleaning, organizing, and documenting information from complex food system studies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain comprehensive datasets related to experimental research.
• Conduct fundamental statistical analyses to interpret experimental data.
• Assist with data modeling efforts to explore relationships and predictive insights.
• Create clear, informative data visualizations and concise summaries for the research team.
• Collaborate with researchers to interpret analysis results and support report and presentation preparation.
• Adhere to data management best practices ensuring reproducibility and quality standards.
• Work flexibly between remote and on-site locations in line with project and team requirements.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

• Proven analytical skills and competence in handling both structured and unstructured data in research contexts.
• Familiarity with basic to intermediate statistics, including descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing.
• Experience or knowledge in statistical software or programming languages such as R or Python.
• Aptitude in simple data modeling to elucidate variable relationships in study datasets.
• Strong communication skills for presenting quantitative insights effectively to non-expert audiences within multidisciplinary teams.
• Educational background in data science, statistics, computer science, food science, engineering, or related fields (degree in progress or completed is advantageous).
• Experience with visualization tools including Excel, Tableau, or relevant language libraries for clear data representation.
• Detail-oriented approach, interest in food science or applied research, and ability to manage part-time hours and hybrid working arrangements responsibly.
