Condition Assessor

Role overview

Northpower is seeking a Condition Assessor to perform detailed field inspections of transmission structures, conductors, and access routes across the network. This role plays an important part in asset management by spotting defects, recording findings accurately, and helping rank issues so the right work can be planned. You will also work with internal teams, landowners, and other stakeholders to make sure information is captured correctly and communicated clearly, supporting safe and efficient network outcomes.

Key duties

• Carry out thorough condition checks on transmission structures, conductors, and access assets.
• Detect, evaluate, and log defects, making sure they are prioritised correctly for follow-up action.
• Prepare asset condition ratings in line with applicable transmission standards and specifications.
• Use Matai and other digital asset management tools to record and maintain inspection data.
• Refresh landowner details and flag any third-party activity that could affect network assets.
• Complete inspection logs, hazard reports, incident documentation, and related records accurately and within required timeframes.
• Keep safety, environmental responsibilities, and quality standards front of mind in all work.
• Support process, safety, and efficiency improvements by identifying better ways of working.
• Take part in internal audits and help maintain strong compliance standards.
• Look after company equipment, vehicles, and PPE so they remain safe and usable.

About you

You are practical, self-driven, and comfortable working in a changing field environment. A sharp eye for detail, solid troubleshooting ability, and a strong appreciation for accurate asset records will help you succeed in this role.

Experience and requirements

• Relevant transmission qualifications and industry certifications.
• Experience in transmission environments; experience with Transpower assets is especially valued.
• Current Transpower competencies are preferred.
• A full, clean New Zealand driver licence.
• Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental best practice.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a high-performing team.
• Good computer literacy and confidence using digital systems.
• Drone inspection experience is a plus, although training can be provided for the right candidate.
