Role overview
The Trade Compliance Coordinator is responsible for helping goods move efficiently across borders while ensuring that import and export activities remain within legal and regulatory requirements. The role works closely with internal teams, customers, freight forwarders, customs officials, and other stakeholders to keep shipment-related processes coordinated and compliant.
Key responsibilities
- Develop strong customer relationships and deliver service that aligns with client needs and business goals.
- Identify concerns that may affect customer satisfaction and work toward solutions that improve the overall experience.
- Oversee the ticketing system for customs compliance requests and close items promptly.
- Maintain strict compliance with applicable laws, regulations, company policies, and customer-specific requirements.
- Check shipping paperwork and commercial invoices for import and export customs use, ensuring accuracy and compliance before approval; complete customs exception tasks when required.
- Collect information and assess customs compliance rules, import/export restrictions, and related supply chain impacts.
- Strengthen regional expertise and keep teams informed about policy and regulatory updates.
- Guide customers on customs matters and import/export restrictions.
- Track operational performance daily and meet service-level expectations.
- Escalate issues quickly and keep management informed about work orders and other important items.
- Spot process or procedure gaps and recommend improvements.
- Stay current on import/export rules, government agency requirements, export controls, restricted and prohibited goods, data analytics, new tools, and best practices, then apply that knowledge to improve operations.
- Assist with project execution and manage individually assigned project work when needed.
- Help roll out new business initiatives and support smooth handover between compliance teams.
- Maintain documentation for project issues and action items and send follow-ups to ensure completion.
Qualifications and experience
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. A background of 1 to 3 years in customs compliance operations or import/export operations is preferred. Familiarity with international trade rules, customs requirements, incoterms, and the supply chain impact of trade regulations is also preferred, along with knowledge of air and ocean transport logistics.
The role calls for strong customer service abilities, including negotiation, active listening, clear and concise communication, and the ability to achieve positive outcomes. Applicants should be aware of risk and able to recognize potential problems early. Strong interpersonal communication, initiative, prioritization, time management, resource management, attention to detail, and persuasion skills are important.

Employees are expected to meet the company standard of 52 hours of training per year, attend training sessions when required, and complete mandatory learning when assigned.
Reporting line
This position reports to the Onsite Trade Compliance Supervisor or the Onsite Trade Compliance Manager.
