Role Overview

We are looking for a Category Director to join our team and report directly to the VP of Product. This key leadership position involves responsibility for managing the in-line and multi-channel product assortment, collaborating closely with Program Management to successfully bring products to market that achieve outstanding business outcomes. You will develop long-term product plans, establish quality standards and pricing goals, and drive profitable expansion of product lines. Coordination with marketing and sales teams is essential to deliver market-leading products.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement global strategies for product innovation across new and existing categories
Lead worldwide category innovation to ensure roadmaps align with consumer demands within distinct sales channels
Perform detailed cost analyses to identify optimal product cost-efficiency
Take ownership of product quality within the portfolio
Determine MSRP strategies applicable to both consumer and trade categories
Manage product introduction processes including transitions and inventory control
Analyze business performance metrics such as revenues, volume, margins, and competitive gap assessments; maintain a balanced product range targeting good, better, and best segments
Engage regularly with consumers and trade partners to gather market insights and competitive intelligence
Prioritize and oversee third-party product development collaborations
Support sales efforts by fostering productive relationships with retailers and trade stakeholders

Candidate Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a similar field
At least 7 years of experience in product development or marketing, preferably within durable goods or consumer packaged goods sectors; durable goods experience is favored
Strong understanding of marketing principles to drive growth initiatives
Proven track record in conceiving and launching new products successfully
Decisive and confident decision-maker capable of leading product launches effectively
Well-developed analytical, financial, and IT skills
Effective relationship management capabilities
A keen consumer-oriented mindset
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Outstanding presentation ability
Strong negotiation and analytical problem-solving skills
Determined to consistently achieve and surpass revenue, margin, and volume targets
Comprehensive product and brand knowledge
Ability to multitask and manage several projects simultaneously
