About the Role
Babcock Power is committed to advancing energy solutions by leveraging teamwork, integrity, and performance to deliver sustainable outcomes. The CAD Designer will play a critical role in creating and verifying CAD drawings for industrial equipment focused on combustion technology, fuel handling, piping systems, and pulverizers used in utility and process boilers. This involves working with engineering principles and manufacturing methods to develop precise 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings, using 3D scanning and manual measurements.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the Project Design lead and Lead Designer to transform sketches into detailed, functional assemblies.
- Create, revise, and correct CAD drawings utilizing software such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD (2D & 3D), AutoCAD Plant 3D, and PTC Creo.
- Ensure that all designs comply with company standards prioritizing safety, quality, and manufacturability.
- Travel as necessary to gather field measurements and attend project meetings for accurate layout and installation planning.
- Use 3D scanning technology to capture measurements of worn components for reverse engineering and detailed drawing creation.
- Stay updated on standard updates, ISO procedures, CAD software advancements, and design practices.
- Maintain organized archives of project documentation within company databases such as DCAP.
- Utilize specialized analysis tools to support design workloads.
- Assist in equipment selection and recommend optimal materials and items for projects.
Requirements
- Technical drafting certificate required; an associate's degree in mechanical design is preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing techniques including fabrication, welding, machining, casting; experience with cladding or thermal spray methods is advantageous.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Autodesk Inventor, or a relevant combination of these tools.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, manage several projects simultaneously, and respond promptly to requests.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- Strong grasp of mechanical design concepts, manufacturing processes, and material selection.
- Understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $59,750 to $98,500 annually. Compensation benchmarks are established based on job function, discipline, level, and regional factors and adjusted according to education, experience, and certifications.
