Job description

Overview

The Project Coordinator plays a key role in overseeing the planning, management, and completion of projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met rigorously. Supporting project scope definition, resource coordination, and assisting team members throughout all project phases are essential components of this role.

This position involves fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) travel arrangements aligned with project site schedules.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and finalize schedules and prepare job handoffs for awarded contracts.
  • Assist in managing subcontractors, conducting site meetings, and organizing project schedules.
  • Utilize effective software and methods to plan timelines, milestones, and project requirements.
  • Oversee project progression across stages from planning through bidding and operational execution to completion.
  • Contribute to daily activities both in office environments and on-site.
  • Engage actively in safety initiatives fostering a strong safety culture.
  • Support process improvement efforts throughout project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project progress and financials closely to guarantee adherence to budget limits.
  • Help with job costing and prepare documentation for progress-based payments.
  • Interpret blueprints to estimate costs accurately.
  • Communicate effectively with subcontractors and tradespeople regarding project cost estimations.
  • Collaborate with departmental heads to assess construction needs, budget planning, and bid evaluation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A university degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience in heavy civil construction is advantageous.
  • Fluent in both French and English is mandatory.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to collaborate within a construction team environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving capabilities and sound professional judgment.
  • Professionalism including punctuality, assertiveness, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Calm and responsive under pressure with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the Maritime region to support project needs.
  • Advanced organizational and planning skills along with proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.

Work Environment and Additional Information

Work includes both office and field site activities. Regular site visits are required, mandating the use of personal protective equipment such as hard hats, steel-toe boots, reflective vests, and possibly specialized PPE like gas monitors, fall arrest equipment, and breathing apparatus depending on site conditions. Other travel may be necessary representing the company or projects.
