Bartender

Job Summary

As a Bartender working within MWR facilities, you will support the day-to-day running of the venue by preparing and serving beverages, assisting guests, and helping keep the bar area organized and compliant with operating standards.

Key Duties

• Serve alcoholic beverages only in line with the site’s minimum legal serving age of 21.
• Pour and dispense drinks such as beer and wine.
• Mix beverages according to the venue’s approved recipes.
• Prepare garnishes for drink presentation.
• Apply alcohol safety practices to help avoid over-serving and intoxication.
• Use common bar terms and understand standard bar operations.
• Remain on your feet for extended periods.
• Check identification in accordance with local/state rules before serving alcohol.
• Handle intoxicated guests appropriately and in line with established procedures.
• Process alcohol purchases through point-of-sale systems and cash registers.
• Explain menu items and serve food from the establishment’s menu when required.
• Clean and maintain bar tools, glassware, utensils, and related equipment.
• Provide friendly and professional customer service.
• Reduce risk by controlling excessive alcohol service and supporting efforts to prevent drunk driving.
• Follow sanitation standards in accordance with Army and Preventive Medicine requirements.
• Comply with all applicable procedures, processes, and policies.
• Carry out any other duties assigned by management.

Skills and Knowledge

• CPR and first aid certification is preferred.
• Understanding of exercise science, health, and fitness is preferred.
• Strong people skills and customer-facing communication ability.

Experience and Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates should have at least two years of experience coordinating organized team sports, recreation club activities, or social event scheduling. Prior MWR or armed forces-related experience is preferred.

Working Conditions

The role may be based in remote and challenging living and working conditions. It can involve long shifts, exposure to weather, and potentially hazardous environments. Candidates should be prepared to relocate on short notice and work under difficult circumstances.
