Role overview

Sodexo is hiring a Baker for the Tuskegee University account in Tuskegee Institute, Alabama. This is a full-time, onsite role with overnight shifts, varied days, and some weekends and holidays. Final shift details will be shared during the interview.

Pay is listed at $14 to $16 per hour.

In this role, you will prepare baked goods from scratch to recipe and production standards, while maintaining Sodexo culinary quality for taste, appearance, and consistency.

Key duties

Review daily production needs and use Sodexo recipes to make a range of baked products such as breads, rolls, muffins, biscuits, cakes, and pastries.
Measure ingredients carefully, combine doughs and batters manually or with equipment, shape and cut dough, and bake items correctly.
Control oven settings, track baking times, and make sure food is prepared, held, and served at safe and proper temperatures.
Prepare and organize the bake shop, keep storage areas properly rotated, labeled, and dated, and maintain cleanliness and order in the bakery.
Handle special requests carefully and ensure finished products meet quality expectations before leaving the kitchen.
Perform other assigned tasks as needed based on account and client requirements.

Physical requirements

Work involves substantial walking and general mobility.
Ability to use hands and arms for handling, reaching, and similar tasks, and to use taste and smell as needed.
Must be able to stand or walk for the full shift, which may run longer than 8 hours.
Must be able to bend, stoop, push, and pull.
Frequent lifting of up to 35 pounds is required, with occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to arrive on time and maintain dependable attendance.

Background and qualifications

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required.
0 to 1+ years of relevant work experience is preferred.
Prior experience in a bakery or pastry-focused role is an advantage.
