Job description

About the Role

Join a forward-thinking consultancy focused on redefining future environments through impactful architecture. This position offers a unique chance to contribute to some of New Zealand's pivotal healthcare infrastructure redevelopment endeavors. The Associate Architect will be instrumental in delivering major hospital redevelopment projects, working alongside key stakeholders including Health New Zealand's Regional Hospital Redevelopment Programme.

Currently, major projects are underway in Tauranga, Palmerston North, and Hawke's Bay Hospitals, progressing through planning and design phases with construction upcoming. Beyond designing buildings, this role centers on crafting therapeutic environments that enhance clinical performance and enrich experiences for patients, families, and communities.

Key Responsibilities

The Associate Architect will collaborate closely with diverse clients and multidisciplinary teams to lead project delivery. Responsibilities include mentoring junior architects, influencing design throughout all project phases from concept to construction, and steering the direction of healthcare architectural design within the organization.

Required Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will possess professional registration as an architect or equivalent qualifications, combined with experience delivering highly complex projects, preferably within healthcare or similarly regulated sectors such as civic, educational, or infrastructure projects. The role demands strong leadership skills, client relationship management, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams. Excellent communication skills and commercial insight to contribute proactively to successful outcomes are essential, along with a passion for designing high-quality healing environments.

Why Join Us?

  • Opportunity to work with over 90 health architects across New Zealand, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
  • Engagement in landmark healthcare infrastructure projects nationally.

  • Access to global organizational resources and career growth.
  • Flexible and hybrid work arrangements to support work-life balance.
  • Comprehensive employee benefits including paid parental leave, fertility and family formation support, menopause and hormonal treatment access, and well-being resources.
  • A strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural safety, with encouragement for Māori and Pasifika applicants and the opportunity to include cultural representatives in recruitment processes.
