Position Overview
The Assistant Registrar role at the Waitangi Tribunal Unit in Wellington supports crucial registrarial tasks that ensure the smooth functioning of the Tribunal, a permanent commission of inquiry focused on resolving claims related to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, holding a unique place within New Zealand's constitutional framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the registration process for incoming claims.
- Preparing detailed reports for Legal Aid applications.
- Assisting with drafting and providing advice on legal and procedural matters.
Required Skills and Experience
- Possession of an LLB degree or being advanced in LLB studies is mandatory.
- A sound understanding of Waitangi Tribunal jurisprudence.
- Experience collaborating with Māori groups and related organizations.
- Strong organization, planning, and legal writing skills, including research and analytical critique.
- Knowledge of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori or a willingness to develop expertise in these cultural areas.

Compensation
The salary range for this appointment is from $74,634 up to $100,846 annually, dependent on experience and skills.
