Role Overview
The Applications Engineer will support Bradken's mining product lines, primarily focusing on Excavator Buckets, Ground Engaging Tools, and Crawler Systems, with additional involvement in electric rope shovels and hydraulic excavators. This role is predominantly field-oriented and customer-facing, requiring close collaboration with customers, sales teams, product design, manufacturing, and supply chain departments to address site-specific issues, enhance product performance, and translate field feedback into practical engineering solutions. The position is remote-based within Zambia with frequent travel to customer locations estimated at 50 to 75%.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert technical assistance to mining clients and regional sales teams.
- Facilitate reviews of product performance, conduct field evaluations, and perform technical analyses related to warranties.
- Assist in product design, customization, reverse engineering, and improvements.
- Create detailed CAD models, technical drawings, simulations, and documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align product design, manufacture, and delivery with customer requirements.
- Support product trials, testing, validation, and gather customer feedback.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality standards, customer satisfaction, and Bradken's engineering benchmarks.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field with practical experience. They demonstrate strong problem-solving capabilities, sound engineering judgment, and clear communication skills. The role requires versatility between design tasks, product assistance, and direct customer interaction.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable discipline.
- Background in design, reliability, application engineering, or a related technical area.
- Experience within mining, construction equipment, fabrication, heavy manufacturing, or similar fields.
- Proven involvement in product design, development, or project management.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling and finite element analysis (FEA) software.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to travel locally and regionally.
- Experience with Siemens NX, ANSYS, Siemens Teamcenter PLM, or 3D scanning is advantageous.
- Knowledge of surface mining machinery, mine site operational requirements, and regional mine safety training (MSHA or equivalent) is beneficial.
