About Dream Catchers Academy
Dream Catchers Academy for Girls is a no-cost boarding school and performing arts academy dedicated to supporting orphaned and underserved girls. The academy offers artistic programs in dance, drama, music, visual arts, and leadership development to keep learners engaged in education and guide them toward purposeful futures. The boarding facility provides shelter, meals, clothing, primary healthcare, and comprehensive welfare services, fostering a safe and creative environment that emphasizes academic excellence and personal growth.
Role Overview
The Academic Tutor and House Parent position is a full-time, on-site role located in Ikorodu. It combines academic tutoring duties with residential care responsibilities. The tutor will assist students with core academic subjects, supervise homework, and aid exam preparation while instilling strong study habits. As a house parent, the role involves overseeing students' daily routines, maintaining discipline, managing hygiene and mealtime supervision, and ensuring a secure and supportive living environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tutoring in fundamental subjects such as English, Mathematics, and basic sciences, tailoring explanations to different learning needs.
- Provide academic support including homework assistance and preparation for examinations.
- Supervise daily living routines, enforce discipline, and monitor hygiene and nutrition among residents.
- Create and coordinate enrichment activities encouraging involvement in performing arts and leadership programs.
- Serve as a positive role model reflecting the academy's values and behaviors.
- Maintain accurate records, communicate effectively with the staff team, and respond to student welfare or health issues appropriately.
- Support the emotional well-being and development of each learner.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proficiency in tutoring core academic subjects with the ability to explain concepts and adapt to varied learning styles.
- Experience in child or youth supervision, particularly within boarding or residential settings focusing on safety, discipline, and emotional support.
- Interest and capability in supporting extracurricular activities like performing arts, visual arts, or leadership development.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills to build trust with learners and colleagues.
- Excellent organizational skills and effective time management to handle schedules and record keeping.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and resilience when working with orphaned or disadvantaged children.
- Previous experience in teaching, mentoring, social work, or caregiving is highly desirable.
- Relevant educational background in Education, Social Work, Child Development, Psychology, or related fields is advantageous.
- Willingness to work flexible hours suitable for a boarding environment, including evenings and weekends.
- Firm commitment to child protection and safeguarding aligned with the academy's mission and values.
