Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking experienced and skilled veterinary nurses to join our Community Practice team within the Companion Animal Hospital at Massey University. This full-time permanent position (37.5 hours per week) offers a fast-paced and diverse working environment with opportunities to assist across multiple departments and develop nurse-led consultations. As part of your role, you will support general practice nursing in a highly collaborative teaching hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in nursing duties throughout community practice, supporting consults and assisting vital procedures including radiography, desexing, dental care, and various surgeries.
- Work across a rotating roster with other nursing staff to gain exposure to multiple clinical areas.
- Engage in nurse-led consultation sessions, leading patient care initiatives under supervision.
- Contribute to afterhours on-call rosters approximately once every 12 weeks, including weekends and public holidays, while maintaining a balanced work-life schedule.
Candidate Requirements
- Possess a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing, Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, or an equivalent qualification.
- Have at least one year of practical experience in a general veterinary practice (consideration given to new graduates).
- Demonstrate competence with general anaesthesia and surgical nursing procedures.
- Exhibit empathy and sensitivity to the cultural, emotional, and physical needs of both clients and animal patients.
- Maintain a positive outlook and a strong dedication to patient care and continual professional development.
- Show keen interest in educating and supporting undergraduate veterinary students.
- Be eligible to work legally in New Zealand.

Compensation
The salary range for this position is classified as Grade 4, spanning from $51,554 to $75,351 per annum, adjusted based on experience and skill level.
