Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Treasury Supervisor to oversee comprehensive treasury operations in Lusaka, Zambia. The role involves managing foreign exchange activities, corporate insurance portfolios, and daily treasury support to ensure efficient financial operations and minimize risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor foreign exchange rates in Zambia by maintaining ongoing contact with multiple local banks to obtain real-time FX quotes, evaluate trading limits, and stay informed about market policies. Select the most advantageous exchange rates to facilitate corporate foreign exchange conversions.
  • Analyze the global foreign exchange market, including factors such as the US Dollar Index, Federal Reserve monetary policies, and global commodity price movements. Stay updated on Zambia's foreign exchange control policies, new regulatory requirements from the Bank of Zambia (BOZ), and foreign exchange declarations. Monitor Zambian Kwacha (ZMW) exchange rate fluctuations, assess foreign exchange risks, generate recurring risk analysis reports, and alert the treasury team when necessary.
  • Lead all aspects of the corporate insurance function, including procurement, renewal of annual policies, and claim settlements. Streamline existing procedures by developing standardized, implementable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for insurance management along with uniform systems for account records, documentation, and approval processes.
  • Identify and establish new insurance partnership opportunities within Zambia. Evaluate potential insurance providers based on the Group’s operating framework, negotiate terms, and optimize insurance procurement to reduce corporate insurance expenses.
  • Handle routine treasury tasks such as maintaining treasury ledgers, performing bank reconciliations, and managing foreign exchange declarations. Assist the East Africa Treasury Manager with regional coordination, capital risk oversight, and perform additional ad-hoc treasury duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification is required.
  • Between 3 to 5 years of practical experience in corporate treasury management, foreign exchange operations, or corporate insurance administration within sizeable organizations. Preference given to candidates with treasury experience in Zambia.
  • Excellent command of English to conduct independent business communications with banking and insurance partners.
  • Thorough understanding of BOZ foreign exchange regulations and local bank FX settlement processes. Proficient in complete insurance cycle management including procurement, renewals, and claims processes. Strong analytical abilities to evaluate currency trends and identify financial risks, coupled with keen logical reasoning and data awareness.
  • Detail-oriented and precise, with superior communication and negotiation skills to interact autonomously with banking institutions, insurers, and regulatory bodies. Ability to handle pressure and manage multiple portfolios, including foreign exchange and insurance, simultaneously.
