Substation Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Substation Engineer with significant expertise in power utilities, oil & gas, or data center projects. Candidates should have between 2 to 8 years of hands-on experience and a strong technical background in automation, communication protocols, and system commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Substation Automation Systems (SAS).
• Work extensively with SCADA platforms such as Schneider EcoStruxure Power Operation (EPO/PSO).
• Handle programming and management of PLCs including Schneider Quantum, M340, M580, and Siemens S7.
• Manage Load Shedding, Load Sharing, and Power Management Systems (PMS).
• Conduct system engineering activities including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), site commissioning, troubleshooting, and testing phases.
• Implement and maintain IEC 61850-based digital substations.
• Support on-site execution, working at least 50% of the time on location.
• Travel internationally as required for commissioning and validation.

Technical Requirements

• Experienced in IEC 61850 protocol and digital substation standards.
• Familiarity with communication protocols including IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus, and OPC.
• Knowledge of network architectures such as PRP, HSR, RSTP, and VLAN.
• Experience with Hirschmann or Siemens industrial network switches.
• Proficient with Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), protection relays, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), and energy meters.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of OT cybersecurity practices according to IEC/ISA 62443 standards.
• Experience with industrial security equipment including firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and syslog servers.
• Familiarity with Windows domain administration.
• Experience working in both onshore and offshore Oil & Gas site executions.

Additional Information

This role requires the candidate to be comfortable with frequent on-site duties (more than half the year) and international travel for commissioning and verification tasks.
