Streetlighting Technician

About NPE-Tech and the Role

NPE-Tech Ltd is a recognized electrical contracting firm with teams operating in New Plymouth and several other cities in New Zealand. We are expanding and seeking a dedicated Streetlighting Technician to join our New Plymouth branch. This role is ideal for a skilled technician who is methodical, safety-aware, and focused on customer service, looking to establish a long-term career within our growing company.

Key Duties

• Install, maintain, and repair streetlighting infrastructure throughout the Taranaki region.
• Identify faults in streetlighting equipment and advise on repair or replacement options.
• Perform preventative maintenance tasks on streetlighting systems.
• Conduct various electrical repairs to support streetlighting contracts as needed.
• Install and maintain lighting, controls, wiring, fuse boxes, and other electrical components.
• Use electrical testing tools to verify installation safety.
• Establish and manage safe work zones following traffic management plans.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and specifications for repair planning.
• Operate power and hand tools efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and codes throughout all installations.
• Participate in site meetings and company discussions as needed.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

• Follow all company, client, and legal health and safety guidelines.
• Attend safety talks and meetings regularly.
• Complete task-specific risk assessments.
• Report hazards, incidents, accidents, and near misses promptly.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Possession of a valid full driver's license; EWP and Class 2 licenses preferred.
• Qualification as an Electrician and/or Line Mechanic.
• Strong skillset in electrical network distribution work.
• Good understanding of electrical codes and safety protocols.
• Ability to interpret plans, schematics, and construction standards.
