Job Summary

Located at 870 Red River Road, Thunder Bay, ON, the Shift Supervisor assists the Store Manager in managing day-to-day thrift store operations to ensure seamless service. When not supervising, this role performs duties akin to a Sales Associate.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage customers and donors warmly and courteously.
• Safeguard the quality and integrity of donated items.
• Accurately complete customer transactions including cash and debit payments.
• Help achieve store financial goals by maintaining high customer service standards.
• Open and close the store following proper procedures when necessary.
• Manage processing of donations: loading/unloading, sorting, packing, pricing, and storing.
• Maintain product knowledge to answer customer inquiries in person or by phone.
• Monitor store activity to ensure security.
• Handle merchandise safely and assist in stock rotation.
• Contribute to inventory control by receiving, sorting, and pricing items as directed.
• Assist with store layout and displays to attract customers and maintain an appealing storefront.
• Replenish stock levels and remove unsellable inventory as instructed.
• Ensure donated goods are sorted and processed according to quality standards.
• Maintain store cleanliness and organization including tidying shelves, sweeping, dusting, and mopping.
• Comply with store policies and procedures.
• Assist in inventory cycle counting and reconciliation.
• Provide excellent service to all guests and donors.
• Act as Team Lead or Working Supervisor in the Store Manager’s absence.
• Train and demonstrate operational procedures to staff when required.
• Ensure a safe and healthy workplace by following Health & Safety regulations.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Workplace Environment and Conditions

• Permanent full-time position in a standard retail store environment.
• Job involves frequent physical activities including lifting up to 30 pounds unaided, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking.
• Exposure to fumes, dust, and temperature changes is common.
• Work requires adherence to strict deadlines and managing interpersonal conflicts.
• Tasks can be repetitive at times.
• Mandatory use of safety shoes at all times within store and donation receiving center locations.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

• Minimum partial completion of high school education.
• At least 2 years’ experience in retail or warehouse settings.
• Willingness to embrace and support The Salvation Army’s mission and values.
• Ability to comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Salvation Army safety policies.
• Capability to successfully pass applicable background screenings.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate in a team environment.
• Physical capability for frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance.
• Detail-oriented with an eye for quality maintenance.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $17.60 to $21.84 per hour, with a maximum rate of $26.20 per hour. Final placement depends on market trends, internal equity, and candidate’s experience and qualifications.
