Role Overview

The Shift Supervisor assists the Store Manager by managing daily operational activities to ensure smooth functioning of the thrift store. When not fulfilling supervisory duties, this position contributes as a Sales Associate.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Engage positively and courteously with customers and donors.
• Safeguard the integrity of all donated goods.
• Ensure accurate processing of customer sales, including cash and debit transactions.
• Help achieve store financial goals by upholding customer service standards.
• Open and close the store per established procedures as needed.
• Handle donations by unloading, sorting, packing, pricing, and storing items.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of stock to answer customer inquiries in-person or by phone.
• Monitor store security diligently.
• Organize merchandise safely and assist with inventory rotation.
• Contribute to inventory control through receiving, sorting, and pricing donations according to guidelines.
• Support store visual merchandising including window and product displays to enhance customer attraction.
• Keep the store neat and orderly by tidying, stock replenishment, cleaning, and maintaining the sales floor.
• Follow all store policies and procedures thoroughly.
• Help with inventory reconciliation and cycle counts.
• Provide excellent service to both guests and donors consistently.
• Step in as Team Lead or Working Supervisor for Store Associates during the Store Manager's absence.
• Offer on-the-job training and operational guidance to staff as required.
• Promote a safe, healthy work environment in line with Health & Safety standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

• This is a permanent full-time, onsite role in a retail store environment.
• Physical demands include frequent lifting up to 30 pounds unassisted, stretching, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking.
• Exposure to dust, fumes, and fluctuating temperatures is common.
• Must meet deadlines consistently and manage interpersonal challenges with customers, donors, vendors, and colleagues effectively.
• The work combines varied tasks with periods of routine repetition.

Education and Experience

• Some high school education completed.
• At least two years of experience working in a retail store or warehouse setting.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a teamwork focus.
• Physically able to carry out duties requiring lifting and handling of stock safely and independently.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.

• Successful completion of background and screening checks as required by The Salvation Army.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is from $16.50 to $19.89 per hour, with a maximum of $23.86 per hour. Placement within this range is determined based on market factors, internal alignment, and the candidate’s experience and skills.
