Service Technician - Wind Turbine Maintenance in New Zealand

The service team in New Zealand delivers high-quality maintenance and operational support for wind farms. The position is based around Palmerston North in the Manawatū-Whanganui region, specifically servicing Turitea and Tararua Wind Farms. Note that this is not a fly-in-fly-out position; candidates need to reside locally. Working hours are generally 8 hours per day with on-call duties roughly once every 3-4 weeks during weekends, and travel is approximately 50 days annually.

Responsibilities

• Adhere strictly to safety and environmental protocols while meeting service performance targets.
• Carry out scheduled inspections and maintenance, including replacing and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components as per Vestas standards.
• Ensure smooth turbine operations through the use of condition monitoring and remote control systems.
• Manage service vehicle efficiency and maintain an adequately stocked warehouse by ordering necessary materials, tools, and spare parts.
• Assemble and service components following current standards and utilize cranes when necessary.

Qualifications and Competencies

• Trade qualification in electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic disciplines combined with enthusiasm to advance skills within these fields.
• Proficient computer abilities for managing tools and software for documentation and work monitoring.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Valid driver's license.
• Commitment to strict health and safety standards in the workplace.
• Physical aptitude to climb turbines and work in challenging weather conditions.
• Willingness to travel to other sites when required.
• Team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently with strong organizational skills.
