Sergeant - Institutional Recruitment at McCormick Correctional Institution

Position Overview

The Recruiting Sergeant serves as the lead coordinator for the recruitment of correctional officers at the McCormick Correctional Institution. This role involves guiding applicants from their initial contact through to onboarding, ensuring a smooth transition into training and permanent employment. The Recruiting Sergeant is responsible for maintaining an efficient hiring pipeline and ensuring compliance with all agency standards and security protocols.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Promptly engage prospective candidates and clearly explain the role and hiring process.
• Evaluate applications against minimum qualifications and support applicants through the application process.
• Conduct interviews to assess candidate suitability and coordinate further interviews with the Warden.
• Administer pre-employment activities, including testing, background checks, and medical examinations.
• Manage new hire orientation, distribute necessary equipment, and supervise initial job shadowing.
• Maintain detailed records of applicant progress and provide recruitment reports to leadership.
• Collaborate with Human Resources, training personnel, and institutional leadership to address staffing requirements.

Training Requirement

Selected candidates must complete an eight-week Basic Training course at SCDC upon hiring.

Qualifications and Eligibility

• Possess a high school diploma and a minimum of 18 months of experience in corrections, security, military, or law enforcement roles.
• A relevant bachelor's degree can substitute for part or all required experience (related degree can substitute for half).
• Certification from the SCDC Training Academy and completion of basic supervisory training within six months of appointment are mandatory.
