Job description
About the Role
The MCU/MPU Engineering Digital IP team at NXP Semiconductors in Munich is responsible for creating essential components used in diverse products such as automotive microprocessors, application processors, microcontrollers, and networking devices. The Munich team develops interface components, DSP subsystems, next-generation AI/ML cores, and RISC-V IPs. This role is designed to reinforce the team with seasoned verification engineers who specialize in various digital IP and subsystem areas.
Key Duties
- Carry out pre-silicon verification for AI/ML processing units, RISC-V processors, or comparable digital IPs.
- Establish and formulate extensive IP verification strategies based on requirements covering industry standards, architecture, product, and design specifications.
- Work in close synergy with hardware, firmware, software, architecture, and system engineering teams to grasp IP functions and system-level scenarios.
- Implement verification plans consistent with product requirements ensuring delivery of defect-free, top-quality IPs.
- Design, develop, troubleshoot, and maintain UVM-driven verification environments for RTL simulation.
- Create test cases within relevant verification frameworks incorporating stimulus generation and assertion-based validation.
- Conduct simulations at various abstraction levels including RTL, power-aware RTL, gate-level, FPGA, and emulation platforms.
- Perform regression testing, interpret results, and lead efforts to fulfill functional and code coverage closure.
- Detect problems, investigate failures, and actively contribute toward the ongoing enhancement of verification methodologies and workflows.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or allied disciplines.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in IP or subsystem verification.
- Comprehensive knowledge of microprocessor architecture, interconnects, and cache coherency protocols.
- Practical experience in CPU verification involving proprietary cores, RISC-V, or AI/ML accelerator units.
- Experience utilizing AI-enhanced tools to improve development and verification productivity.
- Proficiency in developing testbenches using UVM geared for IP, subsystems, or SoC verification levels.
- Familiarity with AMBA protocols (AHB, AXI, ACE, CHI) and various memory technologies such as ROM, RAM, Flash, DDR/LPDDR.
- Advanced capabilities in Verilog, SystemVerilog, and C/C++ programming languages.
- Competence in scripting languages including Python, Perl, TCL, or Shell scripting.
- Mastery of metric-driven verification techniques encompassing both functional and code coverage measures.
- Experience with directed and constrained-random verification approaches.
- Understanding of assertion-based and formal verification methodologies.
- Ability to debug designs at both pre-silicon simulation/emulation phases and post-silicon stages.
- Strong analytical mindset accompanied by excellent problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in English communication, both written and spoken; basic German conversational skills are advantageous.
