Role overview
This is a permanent full-time position based in Britomart, Auckland, within Institutional & Business Banking (IBB). The role sits in the Chief Operating Office and focuses on improving operational performance, guiding strategic delivery, and supporting business outcomes across the IBB function. You will work closely with senior leaders to turn strategy into practical action and help ensure priorities are delivered for customers, employees, and the wider business.
About the role
Reporting to the Senior Manager IBB Operations, you will contribute to the design and execution of the operational and strategic agenda for IBB. The position blends planning and hands-on delivery, with responsibility across operations, change and transformation, governance, performance management, risk, and remediation.
You will support a wide range of initiatives, helping create alignment, focus effort on the most important work, and maintain disciplined execution. A key part of the role is helping IBB achieve its strategic goals while keeping customer outcomes, operational effectiveness, and regulatory responsibilities front and centre.
Key duties
- Lead initiatives that lift operational performance, reduce complexity, improve efficiency, and strengthen delivery across IBB.
- Support the delivery of strategic priorities, transformation work, and business change programmes.
- Work with senior leaders to convert strategy into delivery plans, priorities, and practical actions.
- Analyse business data and performance information to spot trends, risks, and improvement opportunities, then turn those findings into recommendations.
- Prepare strong governance, reporting, and performance updates for leadership discussions and forums.
- Collaborate and influence stakeholders across IBB and the broader bank to align priorities and deliver shared outcomes.
- Step in for the Senior Manager IBB Operations when needed to maintain leadership continuity across key initiatives.
What you will need
We are looking for someone commercially sharp who is comfortable working through complexity, building trust with stakeholders, and delivering results through influence rather than authority.
- Substantial experience in financial services, preferably in business, commercial, or corporate banking.
- A strong background in business operations, operational excellence, transformation, strategy execution, or business performance.
- Proven ability to lead complex programmes made up of multiple workstreams and varied stakeholder groups.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, including the ability to work effectively across all levels of an organisation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to turn insights into action.
- Experience producing executive-level reports, business cases, recommendations, and governance documents.
- A demonstrated history of supporting change adoption, business readiness, and continuous improvement.
- The ability to bring structure, clarity, and prioritisation to complicated business issues.
Benefits and working environment
You will join a supportive team environment and receive a competitive range of banking and lifestyle benefits. The role includes 4 weeks of standard annual leave plus 5 additional wellbeing days each year.
- Option to purchase up to 4 extra weeks of leave per year.
- Banking benefits and insurance discounts.
- Career development opportunities, including programmes that recognise high performers.
- Competitive superannuation and KiwiSaver options.
- Environmental and community care initiatives.
- Generous parental leave, including top-up of government-paid parental leave.
- School holiday subsidy to help balance work and family commitments during school breaks.
