Role Overview

We seek a seasoned Sanctions & Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF) Investigator for Binance's Compliance division. The position involves detailed investigation of sanctions-related exposures and suspected terrorist financing activities across Binance's worldwide operations. Ideal candidates possess investigative acumen, practical experience in blockchain analytics, and thorough knowledge of sanctions and CTF frameworks within the crypto industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive investigations into sanctions alerts, CTF suspicions, and flagged high-risk transactions from monitoring systems or referrals.
  • Utilize blockchain tracing and on-chain analytical techniques to discern fund movements, wallet ownership, and associations with sanctioned entities or terror financing groups.
  • Handle cases referencing sanctions lists, such as OFAC, UN, EU, with appropriate understanding of jurisdictional applications.
  • Produce detailed, accurate investigation reports and filings like SARs/STRs as necessary.
  • Manage caseloads adhering to service level agreements, prioritize tasks efficiently, and maintain precise case documentation.
  • Conduct open-source intelligence research to enrich case insights and identify links to sanctioned parties or illicit networks.
  • Assist in client off-boarding processes related to confirmed or suspected sanctions breaches.
  • Ensure all investigative activities comply with Binance's global sanctions policies and CTF regulatory requirements.
  • Identify weaknesses or gaps in investigative controls, proposing enhancements.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in sanctions, CTF, or financial crime investigations within crypto or financial services sectors.
  • Direct hands-on use of blockchain analysis platforms such as Chainalysis, Elliptic, TRM Labs, or similar.
  • Strong familiarity with international sanctions regimes (OFAC, UN, EU, UK) and CTF regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated capability to conduct complex investigations across multiple sources and produce clear, defensible investigation outputs including SARs/STRs.
  • Experience with sanctions screening tools like World-Check, ComplyAdvantage, or Actimize is advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Exceptional analytical and investigative abilities, capable of connecting diverse data points for informed conclusions.
  • Excellent communication skills, producing audit-ready, regulator-focused investigation reports.
  • Able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment managing multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as CAMS, CGSS, or similar professional accreditations.
  • Previous experience in law enforcement, financial intelligence units or regulatory agencies.
  • Proficiency with OSINT tools and techniques for open-source investigations.
  • Insight into decentralized finance (DeFi), cross-chain transactions, and emergent crypto-financial crime patterns.
