Overview
Join a leading transportation and logistics organization as a Safety Manager responsible for ensuring the safe and compliant movement of materials across multiple U.S. locations. This role involves managing regulatory adherence including OSHA, DOT, and hazmat standards, leading safety teams, and fostering continuous improvement in safety practices aligned with company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage safety operations across multiple sites ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
- Develop and refine safety protocols, supporting consistent execution of safety programs and policies.
- Lead Safety Supervisors and teams to uphold accountability and efficient implementation of initiatives.
- Conduct site evaluations to assess safety conditions and implement improvements.
- Manage audits, inspections, and investigations including root cause analysis and corrective measures.
- Design and deliver training initiatives for supervisors and new employees to strengthen safety culture.
- Engage regularly with operational staff to promote alignment between safety procedures and workplace activities.
- Oversee hazardous material handling operations, including documentation and compliance management.
- Maintain readiness for audits by managing compliance documentation and responding to regulatory updates.
- Serve as primary liaison for regulatory bodies and lead emergency response coordination as necessary.
- Provide leadership with performance and safety metrics reports.
Qualifications and Skills
- At least six years of progressive experience in safety roles within industrial or transportation settings, including three years in leadership positions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, Industrial Hygiene, DOT/GHS, and ergonomics regulations.
- Experience developing and managing safety programs across multiple locations.
- Clear, valid driver's license and capability to travel within the U.S. up to 30% of the time.
- Strong bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and data analysis tools for reporting and dashboards.
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks and audit procedures.
- Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or related fields and certifications such as CSP.
- Experience in ocean transportation or maritime shipping and managing hazmat programs is advantageous.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Requires frequent walking, sitting, standing, occasional lifting up to 15 pounds, climbing stairs, and accessing confined spaces.
- Must have good vision capabilities including close and distance vision, color perception, and depth perception.
- Ability to work independently, follow procedures strictly, and interact effectively with colleagues and vendors.
Work Environment and Conditions
- Primary work settings include office and vehicles, with exposure to varied weather conditions and possible outdoor tasks during different shifts.
- Work may involve interaction near moving equipment, exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals, and noise levels from quiet to moderate.
- Expect occasional weekend, holiday, and extended working hours with domestic travel.
