Veitch Ops delivers remote dispatch and operational support services for taxi, private-hire, courier, and logistics firms. Their support covers busy intervals, staff absences, after-hours, and other operational gaps.

Opportunity Details

We seek 4-5 dependable freelance dispatch operators who can onboard immediately to handle assignments as client demand grows. This role is a flexible freelance contract without guaranteed hours. Work assignments depend on client demand, and freelancers may choose which assignments to accept based on their availability.

Main Responsibilities

Answer booking or job intake telephone calls.
Accurately input booking details.
Assign and coordinate drivers.
Monitor ongoing work activities.
Handle customer and passenger inquiries.
Provide updates regarding journeys or deliveries.
Support periods of high dispatch activity.
Cover shifts during evenings, weekends, overnight hours, or during staffing shortages.
Adhere to client-specific escalation protocols.

Assignment details including duties, system access, shift times, and pay rates are confirmed before acceptance.

Candidate Requirements

Prior dispatch or call room experience within taxi, private-hire, courier, logistics, or related fields.
Skilled in communicating directly with customers and drivers.
Proficiency in at least one recognized booking, dispatch, or fleet management system.
Fluent and professional English communication skills, both spoken and written.
Comfortable interacting with UK-based clients, drivers, and teams.
Strong reliability and punctuality.
Ability to maintain calm and sound judgment during high-pressure operations.
Flexibility to adapt to different clients, systems, and procedures.
Attentive to detail and professional handling of confidential client information.

Experience with systems like Autocab, iCabbi, Cordic, or other major dispatch platforms is an advantage but not mandatory.

Remote Working Requirements

Own a reliable computer.

Access stable and consistent internet connection.
Maintain a private and secure workspace.
Plan backup options for connectivity or equipment failures.
Provide clear availability aligned with UK time zones.

Applicants may be located anywhere globally as long as they work securely, maintain professional communication, and are legally permitted to freelance from their location.

Compensation Details

Standard hours: GBP 17.50 per hour
Evenings (6pm-10pm UK time): GBP 19.00 per hour
Overnight (10pm-6am UK time): GBP 20.00 per hour
Weekends: GBP 19.50 per hour
UK bank holidays: GBP 22.50 per hour

Only the highest applicable hourly rate applies per shift; rates are not cumulative. Payment is made weekly in GBP upon submission of approved hours.

Additional Information

This role is freelance and self-employed; no guarantee of work hours.
Work is allocated depending on client demand.
Freelancers may accept or decline assignments freely.
Onboarding can be completed immediately, with work expanding alongside Veitch Ops’ client portfolio.
Freelancers are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and compliance with local laws.
Operators may provide services to multiple businesses simultaneously.
Compliance with assignment briefings, security protocols, and escalation steps is mandatory.
No authority is given for unauthorized refunds, pricing, contracts, or policy changes.
System access is restricted to necessary information only for each task.
Client onboarding, training, and authorized work are remunerated.

Selection and Onboarding Process

Candidates will undergo an informal phone or video interview followed by a practical dispatch assessment lasting approximately 30-45 minutes. This assessment is unpaid and focuses on communication, judgment, and dispatch skills without involving actual customer transactions.

Applicants must provide identification, references, and pass any required background, confidentiality, and security checks. Signing freelance and confidentiality agreements is required before engagement.
