Position Overview
The Procurement Buyer role involves overseeing the entire purchasing process of raw materials, excipients, packaging supplies, equipment, and related services essential for pharmaceutical manufacturing. This role blends transactional buying with strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management to maintain continuous supply, regulatory adherence, and cost optimization. The position requires close coordination with departments such as Planning, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Production to support manufacturing schedules, product launches, and ongoing enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Source, negotiate, and procure raw materials, excipients, packaging elements, equipment, and services in alignment with cGMP, FDA, and company quality standards.
- Manage the complete procurement lifecycle from initiation through purchase order issuance, delivery tracking, and invoice verification.
- Build and sustain supplier relationships, assess supplier performance, and drive improvements as needed.
- Engage in supplier selection, qualification, and approval processes collaboratively with Quality and Regulatory teams.
- Lead price negotiations and contract discussions to achieve competitive terms while ensuring quality and reliable supply.
- Track and evaluate market trends, supplier lead times, and capabilities to identify opportunities for cost reduction and risk management.
- Work alongside Production and Planning to forecast material needs ensuring timely availability and optimal inventory.
- Support development of new products by sourcing novel materials, packaging components, and technologies.
- Adhere to all procurement activities following internal SOPs, documentation standards, and regulatory demands.
- Maintain precise procurement records including supplier documentation, certificates of analysis, and contracts within ERP or procurement platforms.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts aimed at procurement processes, supplier performance, and supply chain efficiency.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in procurement or purchasing, ideally within pharmaceutical or GMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
- Thorough knowledge of cGMP, FDA, and pertinent regulatory frameworks.
- Proven abilities in negotiation, communication, and managing supplier relationships.
- Proficiency with ERP or MRP software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on detail-oriented compliance.
- Capacity to work collaboratively across departments and juggle multiple priorities efficiently in dynamic settings.
