Role Overview
The Private Equity Analyst role is focused on acquiring and expanding businesses, particularly within construction, electrical, industrial services, data centers, and other sectors related to the built environment where Onni's operational advantages apply. This is a unique chance for early-career professionals to engage in live transaction processes from the outset and have direct interaction with decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities
- Construct and manage LBO, DCF, and operational financial models, including debt schedules, returns waterfalls, sensitivity analyses, and downside scenarios.
- Evaluate inbound and sourced investment opportunities, prepare screening memos with clear recommendations.
- Support comprehensive due diligence across financial, commercial, operational, tax, and legal streams, coordinating with external advisors.
- Prepare investment committee documents, board presentations, and lender materials.
- Analyze capital structure options modeling different debt and equity impacts on returns and control.
- Conduct market and industry research focusing on competition, customer base, margins, and consolidation trends.
- Assist with transaction execution, including data room administration, issue tracking, and liaising with counterparties.
- Support portfolio company reporting post-close, tracking monthly performance, budget variances, covenant adherence, and integration milestones.
- Identify and quantify value creation opportunities within the portfolio such as pricing, procurement, overhead reductions, working capital improvements, and add-on acquisitions.
- Evaluate fund investments, co-investments, and special opportunities.
- Maintain and update the deal pipeline tracker for leadership visibility.
- Document processes, models, and operating standards to facilitate replication across the team.
- Contribute to internal investment reviews, portfolio discussions, and Onni Capital events.
Candidate Qualifications
- Educational background or interest in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, or related fields; CFA or CPA candidacy advantageous.
- Strong new graduates with relevant internships in investment banking, private equity, transaction advisory, corporate development, or valuation are welcome.
- Proficient financial modeling skills developed independently, with advanced Excel expertise.
- Firm accounting knowledge, including EBITDA normalization, earnings quality assessment, and working capital analysis.
- Good commercial acumen connecting operational details to valuation and investment returns.
- Experience leveraging modern AI tools for research, analysis, modeling, automation, and high-quality output.
- Excellent written communication, capable of condensing complex topics into succinct recommendations.
- Strong analytical and research skills with sound judgment to separate valuable evidence from noise.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, adept at managing concurrent active projects.
- Confident in articulating and defending viewpoints while remaining open to feedback and new evidence.
- Proactive, comfortable progressing despite incomplete information.
- Adaptable in a fast-paced, small team environment with shifting responsibilities.
- Commitment to accuracy, quality, ownership, and diligent follow-through.
Unique Aspects of This Role
Analysts will experience and influence the entire transaction process from initial contact through to post-close performance assessment. For any given deal, involvement may include sourcing, modeling, due diligence, assumption testing, structuring, investment recommendation drafting, integration support, and outcome measurement. High ownership and accountability for accurate financial analyses and decision support are expected.
Compensation
The position offers a salary of 65000 CAD annually.
