About the Role
Serve as a vital community figure representing Canada Post by managing a local Post Office. Reporting to the Superintendent/Local Area Manager, the Postmaster is tasked with promoting and selling postal products and services to both the public and businesses. This role involves supervising personnel and ensuring customer-centric service delivery amidst diverse priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage and liaise with the community regarding Canada Post services and offerings.
- Actively sell and promote postal products to residents and businesses.
- Secure an accessible, centrally-located premises within the community ready to operate within 30 days of hire.
- Manage daily Post Office operations aligning with retail hours and delivery standards.
- Oversee postal revenue, asset management, and value protection.
- Maintain accurate records and compile reports as required.
- Support efficient management of mail delivery routes.
- Occasionally sort mail for postal boxes and supervise staff.
- Ensure the Post Office environment is orderly, clean, and compliant with Canada Post standards.
- Operate the Post Office with diligence and operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or provincial equivalent; experience in business administration considered an asset.
- Ability to provide or lease suitable, barrier-free premises in a central community location at least one month before starting.
- Experience in customer-facing roles involving retail, sales, and cash handling.
- Understanding of postal regulations, mail processing methods, and service protocols.
- Physical capability to lift mail containers up to 50 lb, move postal boxes, sort mail, and stand for extended time periods.
- Premises must be fully accessible to individuals with disabilities and subject to inspection prior to hire.
Additional Terms
- Postmasters are responsible for costs related to rent/lease, utilities, cleaning, maintenance, snow removal, taxes, and required insurance.
- Appointments are governed by the Canada Post Act.
- Public service hours are set by Canada Post and may vary.
- Priority consideration for transfers applies to CPAA members within the competition area; term employees with CPAA continuous employment may also apply per the Collective Agreement.
- Leasing allowance of $4189 per year provided to offset Post Office operating costs.
- Potential annual supplemental allowance may be awarded for premises-related expenses.
- Weekly work schedule totals 35 hours, with specific daily hours Monday through Friday.
