Job description

Position Overview

This role presents a significant opportunity for an experienced planner with expertise in resource management to influence Auckland’s parks and open spaces through regulatory frameworks. As a Parks Planner at Auckland Council, you will join a collaborative, high-achieving team dedicated to enhancing the city’s diverse parks network, which spans over 4,000 sites ranging from coastal reserves to neighborhood parks focused on accessibility and community infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

You will apply your specialist knowledge, particularly regarding subdivisions, to contribute to regulatory and consenting procedures. Your work will support delivering excellent open space outcomes aligned with Auckland’s growth management and resource management policies. Working alongside senior mentors, you will build your skills in handling complex resource consent cases, managing stakeholder relations, and advising Local Boards on planning and parks issues.

Candidate Profile

The suitable candidate will possess at least two years of relevant experience in regulatory planning or resource management processes supported by an appropriate tertiary qualification. You will have a solid background in project management, delivering results within public sector frameworks, and interpreting legislation such as the Resource Management Act, Local Government Act, and Reserves Act. A strong customer service mindset, proactive problem-solving attitude, and capacity to motivate colleagues are essential attributes.
