Position Overview
An Operations Research Analyst applies sophisticated mathematical, statistical, and computational methods to assist organizations in dissecting complex challenges, enabling smarter decision-making. This role primarily involves working extensively with large datasets extracted from company information systems, using programming languages such as Python or R to clean and transform data, followed by the construction of models designed to simulate real-world scenarios.
Daily Tasks
- Review emails and updated data feeds early in the day to check for new analysis requests and refresh datasets.
- Collaborate with operations managers to comprehend specific problems like increasing shipping expenses or warehouse inefficiencies, and define desired outcomes.
- Perform data preprocessing by addressing missing values, conducting statistical analysis, and detecting data trends or irregularities using Python or R.
- Develop optimization models, including linear programming or simulations, to explore different operational strategies such as delivery routing or adjusting staffing.
- Conduct sensitivity analyses by modifying key parameters to assess impact and identify critical factors.
- Create comprehensive reports and visual dashboards that simplify complex results into actionable business recommendations.
- Present findings to teams and stakeholders, discussing trade-offs and planning subsequent implementation steps.
