Founded in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a United Nations-related agency specializing in migration assistance. Collaborating with governmental and non-governmental entities, IOM promotes safe, orderly migration, providing life-saving services and advice while addressing displacement challenges.

IOM fosters an inclusive and supportive work environment, aiming to harness migration's full potential while supporting people on the move.

Project Context

This project delivers psychosocial support for Afghan nationals residing at Al-Saliyah Camp through psychological counseling and mental health services. The focus is on timely responses to psychological needs, including assessments, individualized sessions, referrals, and group activities that nurture resilience and social cohesion, addressing the stresses arising from displacement and living conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Guide participants in building effective coping mechanisms through music activities.
  • Design detailed session plans and timetables in collaboration with the mental health team, incorporating varied music-based methods such as singing, rhythm exercises, musical games, instrument practice, listening, and songwriting.
  • Conduct individual and group music sessions that encourage involvement and emotional exploration safely.
  • Identify participants needing further support and refer them appropriately.
  • Advocate and uphold respect, diversity, and inclusion across all activities, including group counseling and support for broader MHPSS efforts.
  • Prepare concise reports post-session covering attendance, activities, outcomes, challenges, and suggestions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy regarding participant and project information.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned.

Performance Evaluation

  • Quality and submission of session plans and activity outlines.
  • Consistent delivery of planned group music sessions.
  • Proper maintenance of attendance records.
  • Monthly progress reports summarizing achievements and obstacles.
  • Constructive recommendations to boost engagement and program impact.
  • Support music events and participant showcases when needed.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Performing Arts, Music Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline, combined with at least 3 years of pertinent professional experience.
  • Skillfulness in playing musical instruments and/or vocal performance.
  • Experience working with diverse groups such as migrants, youth, adults, or vulnerable communities, with proven ability in facilitating group activities preferred.
  • Field experience in community-based, educational, humanitarian, or psychosocial support programs is beneficial.
  • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of Pashto and/or Dari is advantageous.

Core Values and Competencies

  • Commitment to inclusion, respecting diversity, and embracing cultural differences.
  • Integrity and transparency in work conduct.
  • Professionalism demonstrated by competence, composure, and sound judgment.
  • Courage to address important issues.
  • Empathy through compassion and fairness towards others.
