Role Overview

Join us in the scenic Otago region and benefit from a 9-day fortnight roster providing a long weekend every other week. This pivotal position involves spearheading technical analysis and leading Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives site-wide, primarily focusing on metallurgy and ore processing. You will support identifying, valuing, prioritizing, and executing key improvement projects aligned with the OceanaGold Continuous Improvement Framework (CIF).

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with line management to develop metallurgical and plant improvement initiatives.
  • Assist teams in designing CI projects and crafting detailed business cases.
  • Prioritize improvement initiatives using net cash flow impact analysis at constraint points and sensitivity analysis of Value Driver Trees (VDTs), integrating findings into budgeting and life-of-mine planning.
  • Maintain oversight of project milestones, schedules, costs, and progress reporting.
  • Monitor implementation and perform post-completion reviews to assess outcomes.
  • Develop and update VDTs to evaluate processing value chains and interfaces, establishing baseline and potential KPIs.
  • Identify key performance constraint drivers and quantify improvement value pools to inform top-down targets.
  • Track all CI initiatives through the five pipeline stages via WiredUp software, ensuring compliance with CIF guidelines.
  • Facilitate workshops to generate ideas and plan initiatives by engaging management and subject experts.
  • Ensure projects have agreed budgets, schedules, and clearly defined objectives with regular performance reporting.
  • Prepare periodic project review documents and participate in monthly and quarterly project status meetings with management.
  • Support monthly site performance meetings and frontline integration of critical initiatives through effective communication tools and practices.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Preferred certifications in Continuous Improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Training in VDT modelling, sensitivity and root cause analysis, and facilitation techniques is advantageous.
  • Full and current driver's license; manual vehicle driving ability preferred.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in metallurgical, process, or chemical engineering roles.
  • Proven expertise in developing and utilizing VDTs for production and cost optimisation.
