Role overview
An expanding pre-construction team is looking for an experienced MEP Estimator who also brings a strong structural steel focus. The role supports the pricing and submission of competitive tenders for energy, industrial, and data centre work, from first enquiry right through to award.
What you'll do
- Build precise cost estimates for structural steel together with related MEP scope packages.
- Study drawings, specifications, and tender documents to define scope and commercial needs.
- Complete quantity take-offs and prepare pricing analyses in detail.
- Source quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, then compare and negotiate them.
- Compile tender submissions that are both competitive and delivered on time.
- Spot commercial exposures, value-engineering opportunities, and other ways to reduce cost.
- Coordinate with pre-construction, engineering, commercial, and operations teams during tendering.
- Discuss technical and commercial issues with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Contribute to budgets, cost plans, and pricing schedules for upcoming projects.
- Keep material, labour, plant, and subcontractor rates up to date in internal cost records.
- Help hand over winning tenders to the delivery team smoothly.
- Track market movements, pricing shifts, and supply-chain changes to support accurate bids.
What we're looking for
- A qualification or degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar field.
- Hands-on estimating experience in structural steel, mechanical, industrial, energy, or data centre environments.
- A solid grasp of steel fabrication, installation, and construction methods.
- Prior responsibility for preparing estimates and tender documents for construction or engineering work.
- Strong commercial judgement, numerical ability, and analytical thinking.
- Confidence reading technical drawings, specs, and contract paperwork.
- Good command of Microsoft Excel and estimating tools.
- Clear communication and strong stakeholder coordination skills.
- Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and the ability to manage several tenders at once.
