Medical Laboratory Assistant

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and committed individual to join our approachable team, contributing to the delivery of a top-quality and efficient Microbiology diagnostic service benefitting patients and service users at the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Working alongside Biomedical Scientists and Associate Practitioners, you will be involved in providing excellent patient care. The role requires adaptability and self-management, with comprehensive training and support provided.

Key Duties

• Receiving and sorting laboratory samples upon arrival
• Performing pre-analytical preparation of specimens
• Entering patient information and test requests into laboratory computer systems accurately
• Handling telephone inquiries and providing results services
• Maintaining cleanliness and order within the department
• Preparing and operating routine analysers

Candidate Profile

• Prior experience with patient data entry or typing qualifications is advantageous but not mandatory
• Demonstrates flexibility, logical problem-solving, excellent telephone communication skills, and a collaborative attitude essential for team success

Additional Information

• Interviews will be conducted exclusively in person at the hospital site; remote interviewing options are not available
