Role Summary
The Lifeguard Crew Member ensures guest safety across aquatic zones aboard the ship, overseeing recreational spaces and promoting well-being. This position reports directly to the Port Adventures Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor guests continuously in pools and other aquatic areas, ensuring vigilant supervision.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, administering lifesaving procedures, CPR, and first aid when necessary.
- Enforce safety policies, rules, and regulations to maintain a secure environment for all guests.
- Keep aquatic facilities clean, check that all supplies and equipment are stocked and well-maintained.
- Maintain effective communication through radio contacts with Lifeguard Coordinators, Recreation Managers, and other departments, especially during emergencies.
- Engage proactively with guests by addressing needs, answering inquiries, and providing information.
- Accommodate additional reasonable requests from management, including participation in training and support of Port Adventures activities.
Basic Requirements
- At least six months of recent experience working as a lifeguard.
- Successfully complete a pre-hire swim assessment, lifeguard training, and keep certifications current.
- Ability to detect and react to distress signals and sounds in aquatic areas.
- Pass vision screening with minimum standards of 20/25 vision, with or without correction.
- Physically capable of performing duties such as lifting guests (up to 100 lbs or more with help) and standing for long durations outdoors under varied weather conditions.
Preferred Skills
- Experience as an open water lifeguard.
- Familiarity with boating, snorkeling gear, or related recreational equipment.
- Competence in computer use and understanding of operational systems.
Additional Information
- This role requires living and working onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel.
- Candidates must show genuine interest in a maritime career and willingness to comply with safety, emergency, and operational protocols outlined in the ship's Safety Management System and Assembly Plan.
- Shared cabin accommodations might be necessary; candidates must appreciate a multicultural living and working environment governed by strict rules.
Essential Conditions
- Possess a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (documents for visa application will be provided).
- Complete pre-employment medical examination.
- Undergo criminal background checks.
- Bring approved work footwear.
- Work in a drug-free environment; new hires must pass drug and alcohol screening during the first week onboard and throughout employment. Positive tests result in immediate dismissal.
