About the Role
Joining as a Learn to Swim Instructor means playing a vital role in fostering water safety and aquatic skills within the Port Macquarie community. Swimming is a fundamental ability that supports enjoyment and safety in various water-related activities such as surfing, boating, fishing, and diving. Your contribution will enhance confidence and competence in water environments, thereby helping our community flourish through their swimming experiences.
The Y NSW has been supporting families in Port Macquarie to feel safe and connected in the water since 2022. Our swim instructors operate across a cluster of four aquatic centers, including:
- Port Macquarie Aquatic Centre
- Wauchope Memorial Olympic Pool
- Laurieton War Memorial Baths
- Kendall Community Pool

Qualifications and Development
If you are already qualified as a swim instructor, you can immediately begin delivering structured and safe swim programs that promote student water confidence and progression. Required qualifications include:
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Recognised swimming teaching qualification (such as AUSTSWIM, Swim Australia, or Royal Life Saving)
- Valid Swimming Instructor License
If you are not yet qualified, the Y provides an excellent pathway with practical on-the-job learning, assistance to obtain necessary certifications, and opportunities to advance a career in aquatic education. The upcoming Swim Teacher Course will be held at Port Macquarie Pool on 22 August 2026 through Royal Life Saving NSW.
