Position Overview
The Junior Well Operations Engineer role offers support in the planning, execution, and enhancement of well operations. You will collaborate with seasoned professionals to apply engineering principles, analyze performance data, assist in regulatory compliance, and drive projects that boost operational efficiency and asset value. This position is ideal for early-career engineers seeking broad exposure across well operations and technical growth.
Work Environment and Team
Based in Calgary, Alberta, this office-focused position includes occasional travel to field sites. You will join a cooperative team emphasizing communication and continuous learning, working close with cross-functional departments such as operations, regulatory, and finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical assistance in well planning, monitoring, performance evaluation, and optimization efforts.
- Contribute to operational planning and post-operation reviews to drive performance improvements.
- Analyze historical well data to identify optimization opportunities and help organize planning and management of related projects.
- Collaborate with the Project Controller for budgeting, forecasting, and operational costs tracking, ensuring monthly expenditures are accurately reported.
- Maintain precise cost tracking and reports for both existing and development wells.
- Support regulatory compliance activities including disposal scheme applications, operational planning, and submission management.
- Keep well files, operational records, and documentation up to date.
- Coordinate among internal teams to synchronize well data, costs, and schedules.
- Offer analytical and administrative support to the Well Operations team as needed.
Requirements
- Recent graduate with an engineering degree from an accredited program.
- 2 to 4 years of industry experience is advantageous.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively under pressure in a busy environment.
- Strong collaboration skills working with diverse teams including operations, regulatory, and finance.
- Proficient communication abilities, both written and verbal.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Willing and able to travel to field sites when necessary.
