Overview

The Junior Conservator will be responsible for the preservation, restoration, and maintenance of architectural finishes. This role involves working on heritage and architecturally significant projects, following approved conservation techniques and project protocols to maintain the integrity of various materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform conservation, repair, and restoration tasks of architectural finishes according to established conservation methodologies and project directives.
  • Evaluate architectural materials’ conditions and apply suitable conservation treatments under senior conservators' supervision.
  • Support preventive conservation efforts including documentation, proper storage, careful handling, and protective measures for architectural finishes.
  • Create and maintain detailed records of treatments, condition assessments, photographic records, and comprehensive conservation reports.
  • Collaborate with conservators, architects, engineers, and project teams to ensure smooth coordination of conservation activities.
  • Guarantee that all conservation interventions align with recognized principles, project requirements, and quality standards.
  • Use correct handling and protection methods for heritage materials utilizing appropriate conservation procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possession of a Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Conservation, Architectural Conservation, Fine Arts, Archaeology, Heritage Conservation, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in architectural conservation, restoration, or repair works.
  • Strong preference for experience involving heritage buildings, museums, architecturally significant structures, or specialized conservation projects.
  • Practical experience with conserving and repairing finishes such as timber, glass, ceramics, various stones, terrazzo, mosaics, tiles, wallpapers, stucco, and decorative elements.
  • Good understanding of conservation theory including material degradation, repair methods, condition evaluations, and documentation practices.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office software for reporting and documentation purposes.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a systematic approach to conservation tasks and capability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
