Role overview
This position leads business development and sales efforts in the assigned territory, partnering with the Senior Business Development Manager, EU Market Leader, and Business Unit Director to deliver revenue and market-share growth. The focus is on building commercial strategies that fit company objectives, finding and winning new opportunities, and expanding the portfolio through a clear understanding of customer requirements, regulatory obligations, intellectual property factors, and market conditions.
You will report to the Senior Business Development Manager and the EU Market Leader.
Location: Onsite at the Porto office.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and nurture relationships with industry leaders, generic partners, OTC businesses, and agents in order to negotiate licensing and supply arrangements.
- Spot new commercial opportunities by tracking market developments and working with business partners.
- Connect commercial planning with the future product pipeline and build business cases for new product ideas that align with customer and market demand.
- Carry out detailed market and portfolio assessments to identify development opportunities and support feasibility reviews with internal teams.
- Keep in regular contact with customers, capture their feedback, and address concerns quickly to strengthen long-term relationships.
- Prepare business plans and present them to management and other important stakeholders.
- Influence both internal and external stakeholders to move strategic business priorities forward.
- Guide, support, and mentor junior team members when required.
- Ensure head office is kept up to date on opportunities, negotiations, and approvals related to business development.
- Work closely with Regulatory, R&D, Intellectual Property, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to help bring products through development and into the market successfully.
Requirements
- A degree in a pharmaceutical-related field such as Pharmacy, Chemistry, Medicine, or a similar discipline.
- An additional qualification in Management, Sales, or Business is preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience in pharmaceutical business development in an international, cross-functional environment.
- A proven history of negotiating commercial agreements and closing deals successfully.
- Experience in portfolio management and R&D pipeline selection.
- Working knowledge of pharmaceutical functions such as regulatory affairs, intellectual property, procurement, and supply chain.
- Strong English skills; knowledge of additional languages is an advantage.
- Good computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office and Excel.
