Role Overview

We are hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Operators specializing in graders to support diverse projects nationwide. This full-time role typically involves working rotations such as 14/7 or 21/7 with 12-hour shifts both day and night. Travel arrangements vary per project and may include flight from approved hubs or drive-in/drive-out options. Lodging accommodations are provided for personnel assigned to remote sites.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Operate graders (14M and/or 24H) for earth moving, grading, stripping overburden, stacking, and stockpiling activities.
Engage in lease building, reclamation, road construction, pad building, and culvert installation tasks.
Conduct thorough routine inspections of equipment including tires, fluids, lights, and brakes to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Follow project guidelines and technical specifications to maintain quality standards.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and on-site personnel to coordinate activities.
Strongly adhere to Morgan's Safe Work Procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) policies, actively supporting a safety-first culture.
Maintain situational awareness of surrounding equipment and potential hazards; conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) as necessary.
Demonstrate sound judgement and problem-solving skills during operations.
Collaborate efficiently within a team and independently manage assigned responsibilities.
Operate two-way radios for clear communication.
Clear equipment tracks by shoveling as needed and assist ground personnel periodically.
Perform additional labor duties or other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

At least 3 years of recent experience operating graders (14M and/or 24H) safely and effectively in heavy civil earthworks, road building, mining, or construction projects.
Experience with overburden stripping, stockpiling, stacking, and land reclamation.
Experienced working with various ground conditions including soft terrain.
Specific experience in ice road construction.
Preferred familiarity with technical grading plans and specifications, road construction, oilfield leases, and pad building.
Ability to finish or trim as required is an asset.

Pre-Employment Conditions

Successful clearance of Alcohol and Drug screening.
Completion of Fitness-to-Work assessment per Alberta OHS and Human Rights Act, including:

Health history review.
Pre-medical evaluation (height, weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation).
Comprehensive musculoskeletal exam.
Critical strength and mobility test for tasks up to 50 lbs.

Must provide valid safety certifications such as CSO/BSO/CSTS-09/OSSA Regional tickets.
Intermediate First Aid certification with CPR and AED.
H2S Alive training.
Bear Awareness (in-class training).
Ground Disturbance ticket specific to Heavy Equipment Operators.
Valid driver's license.
CSA-approved safety boots (minimum 6-inch high, fully laceable).

Work Conditions and Requirements

Physically capable of repeatedly lifting 50 lbs safely.
Ability to work rotational schedules with 12-hour day and night shifts as needed, subject to project demands.
Able to endure noise and vibrations typical of heavy equipment operation.
Open to performing additional labor duties on occasion.
Willingness and ability to work outdoors under all weather conditions including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures.

Employment Terms

This position is project-based and tied to specific assignments. Employment duration is linked to project completion or role requirements. While Morgan has multiple ongoing projects and potential for reassignment, continued employment beyond current assignment is not guaranteed.
