Role Overview

We are hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Operators specializing in graders to support diverse projects nationwide. This full-time role typically involves working rotations such as 14/7 or 21/7 with 12-hour shifts both day and night. Travel arrangements vary per project and may include flight from approved hubs or drive-in/drive-out options. Lodging accommodations are provided for personnel assigned to remote sites.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate graders (14M and/or 24H) for earth moving, grading, stripping overburden, stacking, and stockpiling activities.
  • Engage in lease building, reclamation, road construction, pad building, and culvert installation tasks.
  • Conduct thorough routine inspections of equipment including tires, fluids, lights, and brakes to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Follow project guidelines and technical specifications to maintain quality standards.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and on-site personnel to coordinate activities.
  • Strongly adhere to Morgan's Safe Work Procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) policies, actively supporting a safety-first culture.
  • Maintain situational awareness of surrounding equipment and potential hazards; conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) as necessary.
  • Demonstrate sound judgement and problem-solving skills during operations.
  • Collaborate efficiently within a team and independently manage assigned responsibilities.
  • Operate two-way radios for clear communication.
  • Clear equipment tracks by shoveling as needed and assist ground personnel periodically.
  • Perform additional labor duties or other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 3 years of recent experience operating graders (14M and/or 24H) safely and effectively in heavy civil earthworks, road building, mining, or construction projects.
  • Experience with overburden stripping, stockpiling, stacking, and land reclamation.
  • Experienced working with various ground conditions including soft terrain.
  • Specific experience in ice road construction.
  • Preferred familiarity with technical grading plans and specifications, road construction, oilfield leases, and pad building.
  • Ability to finish or trim as required is an asset.

Pre-Employment Conditions

  • Successful clearance of Alcohol and Drug screening.
  • Completion of Fitness-to-Work assessment per Alberta OHS and Human Rights Act, including:
    • Health history review.
    • Pre-medical evaluation (height, weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation).
    • Comprehensive musculoskeletal exam.
    • Critical strength and mobility test for tasks up to 50 lbs.
  • Must provide valid safety certifications such as CSO/BSO/CSTS-09/OSSA Regional tickets.
  • Intermediate First Aid certification with CPR and AED.

  • Bear Awareness (in-class training).
